Goodnight, Gracie
Today I was at school finishing up final details and cleaning up the lab. Some of my students had asked about getting together with me before the big move on Sunday, so I sent out word to everyone whose email or number I had that I'd be having dinner at the Window just up the street tonight at 5pm. I was really touched by the turnout of rising and graduated seniors. I got to tell them a few things I wouldn't tell them while I was their teacher (like my political affiliation) and had the chance to wish them well. It was great to see them all again: Amanda, Gio, Julia P, Alexandra, Averyl, Bobby, Julia B, Sylvia, David, and Lucy. Thanks so much for coming, and you all have an open invitation when you come out my way (nor way).
Afterwards Inki and I met one of my friends from college (Doug) and one from way back in sixth grade (Tim) at Mad Dog in the Fog on Haight and Fillmore to touch base one more time before blast-off and partake of their twice-a-week pub quiz. We had a great time, for as General MacArthur tells us, "there is no substitute for victory."
