Oh, the weather outside is frightful

But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

The rain stopped on Saturday after 84 days straight of measurable precipitation, the cloud cover that was keeping us warm (temps in the 40s) vanished, and the temperature plunged to 20 or so, where it has been ever since.
So when we got precipitation today, it was snow, and let me tell you, I prefer snow to rain in a major way. Snow makes everything pretty and luminous. It reflects ambient light and makes the whole world brighter, which is a real plus if you're getting six or seven hours of daylight each day. It muffles all the world's noise and makes everything seem peaceful. It doesn't get you soaked through like rain does, so it's actually much more pleasant to be out in the snow than to be out in the rain with the temperature in the low 40s, soaked and miserable. If you are sitting inside by a roaring fire, like I am right now, watching the flakes fall outside and with a snoozing wife on one side of you and snoozing cats on the other, well, the world seems a mighty fine place.

Hi Herr B,
I'm so proud that I finally found your blogspot website.
Now if I could find your e-mail address again then I'd feel very accomplished.
It sounds so nice where you are, with the snow and the fire. I don't know if I told you, but I got into Clark University which is in Worcester, Mass. Amanda is also going, and she and I are very excited to get to go together.
So soon I will be able to enjoy some snow aswell, now it's only the fire I'll have to work on. Hmn, finding a place to light a fire where I wouldn't get expelled should be interesting.

JP,
Great to hear you got into Clark and that you and Amanda will be going together. It'll definitely be good to have a friend around on campus on the first day of classes.
The snow here has mostly turned to rain, though I got a good bit of it on a trip to Eastern Norway two weeks ago (see Rally Norway! posting). Best of luck with the rest of the year, and keep me posted on how things are going in SF and (later) in Mass.
