The finish line
A lot has been going on here since I last posted. Most of it has to do with the house. Working on the house has taken about every waking moment we've had away from work these past two weeks. All this effort culminated in our housewarming party for the initiates of the Holy Order of the Kangaroo (it's a long story) on Saturday night, but only after lots of painting, organizing, shopping, installation of appliances, etc., etc. We worked right up until guests started arriving and are still not done -- we don't have our pictures up, we are shopping for new sofas, and we haven't got fish for our built-in aquarium yet, amongst other things -- but things are mostly neat and in place, and everything looks great. The party was a big success as well. We started with Inki's rendition of Laura H.'s famous cheese biscuits, and then I followed with some pretty passable Mexican fare (if I do say so myself). The dessert was chocolate fondue, though, and that's all anyone remembers. The raves went on and on and on. I think everyone would have been just as happy if I had served dry cereal and gruel, as long as I followed it with Inki's fondue. I understand what it must have been like to open for the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show back in '63.
So now I feel I will have the time to update this journal a lot more often and will try to do so. We're trying to do one little house-related improvement a day, but there's not the frantic urgency that drove us as the countdown to the party loomed. It feels really good. We're happy. We're home.

Robert, you're undeservedly generous by calling those cheese biscuits mine. I got them from Chuck's mother, though not as soon as the pound cake recipie. If y'all want that one, just let me know.
