Long pants and short posts

Amanda asked me before I left SF to post a picture of myself in my work clothes, and Dilys, one of my many faithful readers (ha!), has observed that all my posts seem really long, so I´ll try to keep both of them happy. So here goes, with a picture of me on the way to work and a post that´s more "The Death of Ivan Ilych" than "War and Peace."
When I started renovating apartments this week the first order of business was getting me a pair of work pants and steel-toed shoes. The T-shirt is my own:

I have to say I like the pants. They´re very comfortable and very blue with lots of pockets for all the stuff I get to carry around. You can see the folding meterstick and that flat pencil carpenters use so it doesn´t roll off the table and distract them while they´re operating some deadly power tool called the Decap-O-Matic. You can´t see some of the more interesting items, including a work-issue knife that has to be over the legal length here. It certainly would be in California.

Vive le Proletariat!

Dude (sorry, that's "Dr." Dude) the poor Gipper is rolling in his grave. You finally get out of San Francisco only to join Bergen Carpenters Union, Local 315. What's next? A Democratic Party chairmanship?

PS: Your uniform looks like any other European club outfit. Seriously, dim the lights, stare at that picture, and crank up some techno. Only difference is the meterstick (and the smile).

PPS: Hello, Dilys. Do you know Robert? All of his prior posts ARE short. :)

Are those steel-toed bowling shoes?

Tim,
No. They´re steel-toed jogging shoes for when the guy in front of you at the track needs some motivation.

Lee,
Yeah, it is useful to be able to hit the disco straight from work. Of course, I´m off work at 3pm, so the disco isn´t open for a while....

Dilys,
Glad to help.
