The refleks is an only child...

...and no, that's not a misspelling. Refleks (Norwegian avoids the letter x by using a ks spelling instead) are reflectors like the ones on your bike or marking the sides of a poorly lit driveway, except that people wear them here. Not all the time, mind you, but when they're out in the dark. It's very common to have one or two in your coat pockets, fastened with a safety pin so you can pull them out and let them dangle while you walk outside at night. According to accident statistics, it decreases your chance of being run over by 85%, and in a country with a lot of night but without lots of streetlights that's a good thing.
Some are hard plastic just like bike reflectors, others are made of soft plastic, others are snap bracelets (remember those?), and some are even in the shape of little stuffed animals or balls you can clip to your kid's bookbag. When I went to register our car at the DMV a couple of years ago, there was a guy with a table set up giving all sorts of them away -- he gave me some of the bracelets and some of the danglers, then asked if I had kids. "No," I said. He smiled, said "Well, you probably will sometime," and gave me some teddy-bear shaped stickers for any future kids that might show up and a tote bag with reflective silver tape to carry all my loot home.
When I jog at night here I wear a blaze yellow vest with silver reflective tape; they're easy to come by since drivers are required by law to have one in the passenger compartment (not the trunk) of their car so if they have to go out in case of a breakdown, they are immediately very visible to oncoming traffic. I also have a rain cover for my backpack in the same material, in addition to front and back LED flashers on the bike and an extra one on Ella's bike seat, so when I bike Ella to day care I can probably be seen from space.
No point in taking chances, you know.
