Strike
Well, exams are just starting and the country's largest teachers' union is probably going out on strike starting sometime today, so nobody knows what the hell is going on -- students, teachers, or administrators. The exam system here is chaotic enough, since students don't find out what subjects they will be examined in until the last minute so they have to be ready for anything. The students at my school found out yesterday what subjects they'll be taking five-hour written finals in next week, but if Utdanningsforbundet's teachers go out on strike as it looks like they surely will, there will be hardly anyone at school to help prep them for those exams. If the strike lasts long enough, there will be no one to give them the exams either, and they will be cancelled, but in the meantime, the students are basically on their own to prepare for a major examination that may or may not come next week. They are, as you might imagine, a bit nervous about this.
I, however, am not in a union and will be at school and accessible to students, strike or no strike. The day I turn away a student who wants my help is the day I find another line of work.
